FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT WILL I LEARN IN BASS GUITAR LESSONS?

First you must know that not every Bass Guitar Lesson is taught the same. Younger students (6-12 yrs) are taught to read music along with a proven custom method to ease them into playing lines.. Older students and adults may choose to learn by tablature. Rhythm skills, Theory, and improvisation are also incorporated.

WHAT STYLES OF MUSIC CAN I LEARN?

For the beginning student the basics of bass are the same regardless of genre. For the more advanced student we cover jazz, blues, rock, funk, country and bluegrass. We teach electric bass as well as beginning acoustic (upright) bass.

HOW LONG UNTIL YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PLAY A SONG?

In most cases short songs or pieces of songs are taught almost from the beginning. However how soon it becomes music depends many factors including the amount of time spent practicing.

CAN WE USE GRANDPA'S OLD BASS GUITAR?

It depends. For a young student a scaled down guitar (usually 3/4, see: Instruments) is needed. The action or ease of play is very important, some basses can be setup (see Repairs) to play well at a moderate expense and some cannot without major repair. A bass does not need to be expensive but it does need to be the right size and play well.

HOW DO WE PAY?

A $25.00 registration (non-refundable) fee must paid before a lesson time is scheduled. Lessons are paid in advance on the first lesson of the month ($108/4wks, $135.00/5wks). We run rolling admissions so if you want start in the middle of the month, it is prorated @ $27.00 per lesson. We accept cash, check, or PayPal only.

STUDENT TEACHER PROGRAM

We support a program to help beginning teachers refine their skills as they develop into professional teachers. Only advanced long term students who are music majors or preparing to study music at a college level are screened for this program. Not only are their music skills considered but their goals and their abilities to communicate with others, especially younger student musicians. They hone their skills under the watchful eye of a mentor instructor and have access to address any teaching concerns they may encounter. Through this program we will advance the art of teaching music while allowing student teachers opportunity to earn financial support in their chosen field.
